I’ll never understand people who glamorize the military, and war.

I’ve noticed another trend on Tumblr lately, young people who start blogs exclusively with the purpose of posting/reblogging military pictures and talking about how awesome the military is, without actually being in the military.

Newsflash guys. Being in the military (and moreso, being at war) is more than just cool action shots of people yelling/shooting/running. It’s more than cheesy cliches and motivational sayings.

Fuck, being in the military is often the most boring thing I’ve ever done in my life. I wish I had a plethora of pictures of me filling out NCOER’s, or doing AAR’s, or weapons maintenance -hours upon hours upon hours of weapons maintenance to post here. The military is 5% of what you see in cool Tumblr photos and 95% admin/sitting around and waiting for the next thing to happen.

Some of you seem to have impression that the military is all glory, all the time. 

Trust me. IT’S NOT. And you’re not scoring cool guys points by acting like it is.

The second you lose a friend to PKM fire, the second you watch a brother screaming in pain as his leg is shredded from the knees down as a result of an anti-personnel mine.., the second you have to fill out a FLIPL report, you won’t think it’s so cool, or glamourous anymore.

I think the only thing worse than celebrity worship might be the reduction of war to “AWESOME MOTO PICS BRAH!”
